English Program Courses

English for Pre-seminary Students

These courses are offered to seminary students who are preparing for APNTS’ English Exam. They are also recommended to those who want to study English on tutorial basis.

  1. English Structure 1 & II is centered on the understanding of written expressions and language structures and the principles that govern them.
  2. English Development 1 & II focuses on developing practical approaches to writing with greater emphasis on style and writing options.
  3. Spoken English I & II concentrates on practical hands-on exercises that build students’ confidence, fluency and accuracy in speaking the language especially in unrehearsed situations.
  4. Functional English I & II places special emphasis on the development of English language usage through an understanding of speech production, vocabulary, and communication skills.

Asia-Pacific Next Generation Leadership Academy (APNGLA)

This English program is guided by the contract of agreement between KNU and APNTS. Courses offered are designed based on what KNU requires – each with its respective number of credit hours and exclusive grading system.

A. Language Credit Exchange Program

    1. 1. Eight-week English Program

a. Summer Vacation – begins in the 4th week of June.
b. Winter Vacation – begins in the 4th week of December.

    1. 2. Twenty-week English Program

a. 1st Semester – begins either on or about February 1st or March 1st
b. 2nd Semester – begins either or about August 1st or September 1st

B. Methods & Curriculum

    1. 1. Level Test

a. Level test is given on the first day of the program.
b. Students are divided into two levels: low and high, based on the result of the test.

Special English Program (One-on-One Tutorial / Group)

A. Students

1. Recruited Students: Individual or Small Group
a. Students in this category pay $ 1,500. Discount rate is given no higher than 10%.
b. The specified rate above includes the following:

  • Accommodation at Geneva/Nazareth Hall
  • Lunch
  • Textbooks
  • Use of library and other facilities
  • Twenty-hour tutorial per week

c. Certificate is given as requested by the student. It is free of charge; however, if the student requests for another copy, some charges might be incurred.

2. Walk-in Students
a. Students in this category pay Php 20,000 ($455) per course of three credit hours.
b. The specified rate above includes the following:

  • Use of library and other facilities
  • Fifty-hour tutorial per course
  • Textbooks are not included. It should be bought personally by the student.

c. Certificate is given as requested by the student. It is free of charge; however, if the student requests for another copy, some charges might be incurred.

B. Curriculum

The curriculum is flexible. It follows the four language skills: Reading, Grammar, Listening & Speaking, and Writing. Students, however, have the freedom to choose any course they want to take, which includes the ones offered in the pre-seminary English program.
